Stijn Kuppens is a cellist, composer, improviser and producer. He has released seven albums of his own music and is regularly featured on Radio KLARA (Belgium). He has performed concerts across Europe, as well as in China, Japan, the US, Abu Dhabi and South America. Stijn describes his music as instrumental music with the cello in the leading role. He is usually inspired by the world around him.
Stijn has been closely involved for several years with the world-renowned New Directions Cello Festival, which takes place annually in the US and brings together alternative cellists from all over the world. He has since developed an intensive collaboration with composer/guitarist Myrddin (De Cauter), the first result of which is the album ‘Leeksken Licht’, based on poems by Guido Gezelle. With the release of the single ‘Oak’, accompanied by an arthouse short film, they have announced their first duo album, expected in the course of 2025.
In addition to his artistic activities, Stijn is also a cello teacher at the Leuven Municipal Conservatory and the Jetse Academy.
