Born in Latvia, Mischa Maisky is unique in being the only cellist in the world to have studied with both Mstislav Rostropovich and Gregor Piatigorsky. A living legend of the cello, the musician is regularly invited to perform at most major international festivals, has collaborated with the greatest conductors and has worked with the most renowned artists. His long and distinguished career has earned him numerous honours and awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 46th Istanbul Music Festival in 2018, the title of Honorary Member of the Royal Academy of Music in 2019, Accademico Onorario of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia and the Honorary Fellow Award of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. The cellist’s recordings have been critically acclaimed and awarded several prizes. In June 2021, a complete series of more than 40 CDs was released by the Deutsche Grammophon label.
