At the age of 16, Yossif Ivanov won first prize at the Montreal International Competition and, two years later, second prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels. Trained by Zakhar Bron, Igor and Valery Oistrakh, and Augustin Dumay, the violinist has collaborated with renowned conductors such as Neeme Järvi, Marin Alsop, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Vladimir Jurowski, Kazushi Ono, Jaap Van Zweden, Stéphane Denève, Philippe Herreweghe, Hans Graf, Yuri Simonov, Louis Langrée, Maxim Emelyanychev, Aziz Shokhakimov, and Joshua Weilerstein. Yossif Ivanov has performed in recitals and chamber music ensembles at venues including the Mozarteum Salzburg, the Musikverein Vienna, Carnegie Hall in New York, the Ravinia Festival, the Cité de la Musique in Paris, the Philharmonie Essen, the Beethovenfest Bonn, Schloss Elmau, the Evian and Montpellier festivals, the Teatro Carlo Fenice Genova, Ravenna Musica, Ferrara Musica, Kioi Hall Tokyo, and Yokohama Minato Mirai Hall. His recording on the Ambroisie/Naïve label (sonatas by Franck, Ysaÿe, and D’Haene) was awarded a Diapason d’Or de l’Année. Since 2008, he has been teaching at the Queen Elisabeth Music College and the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, where he is head of the violin department.
