
Yoon-Soo Yeo was born in Auckland, New Zealand. He began playing the cello at the age of eight. In 2007, he moved to South Korea, where he studied with Myung-Wha Chung at the Korean National Institute for the Gifted in the Arts from 2013. From 2017, Yoon-soo continued his musical studies by moving to the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he studied with Peter Wiley and Carter Brey.
Yoon-soo has taken part in numerous competitions and festivals. He won the Antonio Janigro International Cello Competition (2014) as well as two special prizes. In the same year, he also won the Schoenfeld International Cello Competition.
He took part in the 2016 Kronberg Cello Festival, where he was awarded the Frans Helmerson Prize. He was also selected twice as a rising star and won the Concerto Competition at GMMFS (Great Mountain Music Festival and School). Yoon-soo was invited by the Ensemble Ditto Festival as its youngest guest artist. He has also taken part in the Gstaad Menuhin Festival and the Carl Flesh Academy, where he was recently awarded the Gastgeber Prize.
As a soloist, Yoon-soo gave his first recital at the Kumho Art Hall in 2013. He made his debut at the Seoul Arts Center in 2018. He has performed with a number of orchestras, including the Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra, DYC Symphony Orchestra, Millennium Symphony Orchestra, Ulsan Symphony Orchestra, Baden-Baden Symphony Orchestra, GMMFS Orchestra and more.
