Sinfonia Valais-Wallis is a modular and versatile orchestra, designed to adapt to venues, works and partners: from full symphony to chamber music format, to ensembles dedicated to contemporary music or stage and visual projects. Its flexibility is its hallmark and allows it to embrace the ambition of each programme.
Based in the heart of Valais, the orchestra brings together between fifteen and sixty musicians depending on the project: artists based in the canton, former students of the HEMU, teachers from the Cantonal Conservatoire or the AMO, and musicians from the rich local cultural scene. This diversity reflects the creative energy of a region where talents intersect and take root.
Rather than a self-programmed season, Sinfonia favours co-production and partnerships in order to fit into existing ecosystems and optimise artistic resources. Its editorial line is structured around several axes: masterpieces from the repertoire, contemporary creations and music, mediation, and interdisciplinary projects.
This approach results in formats with a clear architecture, combining rigour and imagination, and is used by festivals, choirs and opera houses – notably the Paléo Festival, Ouverture-Opéra, Crans-Montana Classics, the Novantiqua and Sierrénade choirs, and the Schola de Sion.
Sinfonia’s rise to prominence is based on lasting alliances and a programming network that extends beyond regional borders. Led by a committed artistic director, the orchestra pursues a vision: to offer an agile and inspiring tool, capable of accompanying new creations, magnifying the great works of the repertoire and bringing together diverse audiences – in Valais, Switzerland and beyond.
